Course Description The Mental Health First Aid - Standard 2 Day Course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course curriculum is based on the Mental Health Guidelines and is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia.
The Standard Mental Health First Aid course will teach you how to provide initial support to other adults who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan. This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
Mental health problems covered:
- Depression
- Anxiety problems
- Psychosis
- Substance use problems
- Mental health crises covered
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe psychotic states
- Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
- Aggressive behaviours.
Any interested adult can attend. Please note this course is not a therapy or support group, rather it is an education course to learn how to give first aid to others.

Assessment
There is no assessment process for this course, but participants can opt for Mental Health First Aider Accreditation through Mental Health First Aid Australia.
Certification
Course participants receive a copy of the Standard MHFA Manual, information guides and handouts, and a Certificate of Completion.
Delivery Options:
The 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid course can be delivered in 1 of 3 ways:
- Face-to-face: a 2-day course led by an accredited MHFA Instructor.
- Blended face-to-face: a self-paced e-learning component, followed by a 4-hour face-to-face session led by an accredited MHFA Instructor.
- Online: a self-paced e-learning component, followed by 2 x 2.5-hour video conferencing sessions led by an accredited MHFA Instructor.
